Music Video
I plan to use the four areas of the media theoretical framework to create a rock music video. The rock music video will be 3 minutes long for the fictional artist ‘The Phoenix’ who is signed to Universal. I want to create a rock music video that describes a teenage male-female relationship to connect with the audience using a narrative that may be relatable. The music video will be a mix between a narrative and a performance so that it remains engaging but fun. The narrative of the music video will be where the girl falls in love with a guy who does not care about her and is deemed to be a ‘player’. Later in the video, it also shows that the singer is an ex seen through signs to the audience. The video ends with the two girls becoming friends. The performance aspect is there to represent the narrator’s thoughts. It will also be inspired by the mise-en-scene of Wolf Alice’s music videos, through the use of colour. The goal of the music video is to advertise to a female audience between the ages of 16-25 years old to create a positive and empowering representation of female characters in the form of a relationship. I intend to use and challenge codes and conventions of typical rock music videos, such as the clothing, that I feel the 16-25 age demographic would wear. However, to maintain connected with the young audience, I want to break conventions through my use of colour within both the production and the website. I want to use lots of dark but bold colours to keep the rock theme new and prominent. At the end of the video, I am going to add in easter eggs with links to the website and social media to have convergence. I aim to use a range of shots to create a lively and contrasting feel to the music video so that I have used the brief to create my version of a rock music video.
Website
Using the music video to create a theme and aesthetic, I am going to create a website that promotes the artist using codes and conventions. I want to create a bold but sleek looking website to relate to the music video. From my inspirations of other music artists website, I want to incorporate some of their features into my website. For example, I really like Charli xcx’s main menu navigation tool, being presented in a barcode type style and the video from one of her music videos which dominates the page as you open it up. I feel as though this represents the bold appearance that I want to use. On top of the video, the artists name with be in large lettering to grab the audience’s attention. I will also display photos of the artist on the website to create a persona that will make the audience want to explore more about the artist. From my music video, I will also create a behind-the-scenes video that the audience will be able to watch through the website. There will be several sections on the homepage which offer different services to the audience, such as a Merchandise and Tour section. This allows the audience to create a deeper connection to the artist.
How do you intend to link your media products to demonstrate your knowledge and understanding of the digitally convergent nature of your media production? (approx. 100 words)
The music video and website will be linked together by maintaining a similar feel through the mise-en-scene. At the end of the music video, there will be links to the website which allows the audience to take a deeper look into the artist. I also plan on creating a QR code for the website at the end of the music video because I feel they are a popular and current way of being digitally convergent. There will also be social media links available. In the music video, there is also a scene where the girl is looking at the website. On the website, there will be images of the artist and a behind the scenes video underneath the music video.
